Waiting in the queue at the petrol station shop the other day, I noticed a mother and her three young children, the eldest probably around 7 years of age, each given a bag of self-service sweets, a bag of crisps and a can of Pepsi. It was lunchtime and the mother was clutching a large bottle of Pepsi, assorted chocolate bars and an even larger pack of crisps, topped off with some mince pies and chips from the Deli counter. “Mammy, I want my chips”, I heard. “No!” she said. “You’re not eating your dinner here – we’re going home – now come on..quickly” as she marched off, followed by her wayward children, munching away at their obviously irresistible bounty. December 11, 2007 by jaskalsiWhy we Need EU Immigration?
December 10, 2007 by jaskalsiI tried hard not to laugh out loud, but it was difficult not to, sitting in the steam room of the Spa in the Radisson Edwardian Hotel at Heathrow recently. There I was, after a particularly gruelling hour in the Gym, relaxing in lavender-laced steam with three others, listening to their animated ‘discussion’ about EU immigrants coming to the UK.

What is happening due to poor Parenting?
December 8, 2007 by jaskalsiWe went to the local health & fitness club recently as a family and witnessed first hand what is becoming both a regular, worsening and alarming occurance – ‘child misbehaviour’. My seven year old son was being harrassed, taunted and bullied by two older children in the pool and when asked to stop by my wife, they responded by throwing a plastic float that hit her squarely on the face, followed by verbal abuse and laughter.
Go Green or Die …
December 7, 2007 by jaskalsiNow you have got to read this-did you know that, on average, just 10,000 Indian & Chinese families, with their newly-acquired affluence, will absolutely and totally dessimate all the environmental efforts of over 1,000,000 Smith-like families across the Planet. Just think of what this means; negative environmental behaviour like running zero efficiency homes, gas guzzling cars and no recycling has an impact on all the good efforts typical of the Smith family to a ratio of 100:1. So if you are in favour of saving the Planet, this is actually quite a depressing fact.
Letter from New York … :Jas Kalsi
December 4, 2007 by jaskalsiI’m writing this from New York where I am for a few days on business and to meet some friends, so I thought I’d share some interesting observations with you… Most people probably think of 9/11 and Ground Zero when arriving in the City and how things have changed in that time. Certainly that was on my mind when I arrived the other day and seeing it close up was a real experience. Apparently, one of the least known changes is that pedestrians have slowed down! used to walk the fastest, covering 60 feet in 10 seconds. However, over 5 years on, they are now ranked 8th fastest on their feet, even slower than Dubliners apparently!

Go Green or Die … :Jas Kalsi
November 30, 2007 by jaskalsiI was watching an excellent programme on Sky the other day about the Smith family in England who had gone completely Green – environmentally speaking of course! They had turned their home into a 70% energy efficient house, were rearing animals and chickens for fresh organic meat, enjoying freshly laid eggs, growing vegetables and recycling 30% of their waste in really ingenious ways. Seeing them in action was very humbling as I sat there in my own energy guzzling home with probably negative energy efficiency, feeling guilty for not doing anything anywhere close to the Smiths…
Love and Destiny … :Jas Kalsi
November 28, 2007 by jaskalsiWhat was all that commotion going on? Hoards of people were running to the town square, where a motorcade of limousines was arriving. It was June 1956 in Nairobi, Kenya and Rajinder was 27 years of age, out with his friends after a particularly successful hockey match. He and his buddies followed the crowds and as he got up onto a wall to get a better view, he saw her just a few yards away.. As she turned, their eyes met and it was as if a thunderbolt had gone through him, making him shiver. He was captivated by her, but who was she?
A Different Approach : Jas Kalsi
November 27, 2007 by jaskalsiHow much time do your children spend in front of the TV and/or computer, either watching programmes, on the Internet or playing computer games? Granted that it’s a great way to shut them up for a while but what are the consequences? A recent study in the USA revealed that the average time is an astonishing 2 hours on school days and 3 hours a day at weekends, which was over three times their average periods of reading.
